After their latest £2 million fine, 'Thames Water must put environment first' - Environment Agency figure'​

On the 26th December the Witney Gazette reported on the latest fine levied against Thames Water for “reckless failure”, resulting in a tributary of the Thames being polluted with raw sewage. Mr Davis of the Environment Agency said it was the 126th time the Environment Agency and its predecessor, had prosecuted Thames Water for sewage pollution since the water industry was privatised in 1989.

WASP Founder Ashley Smith said: “The fine was big enough to get their attention. They can’t afford to behave in the same way and really have to get a grip.”

(as a side note we cannot help but notice that these figures mean that on average over the period since privatisation, Thames Water have been prosecuted once per quarter).
